TV highlights: Meredith Vieira’s last day on ‘Today,’ CMT Music Awards

Make sure to get up early if you want to see the goodbyes — Meredith Vieira bids farewell to “Today” (NBC at 7 a.m.) as she co-anchors her last broadcast with Matt Lauer.

Shania Twain and Taylor Swift appear in a “Thelma & Louise”-themed sketch to kick off the CMT Music Awards (CMT at 8 p.m.), which has performances from acts including Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Big & Rich, Keith Urban, Toby Keith and Jason Aldean. Speaking of Aldean, he leads everyone with four nominations in the music-video-themed award show, followed by Swift, Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts and the Band Perry with three nods each.
“So You Think You Can Dance” (Fox at 8) travels to Las Vegas for callbacks, and the judges make the remaining contestants either really ecstatic or really devastated as they learn if they’re one step closer to making the Top 20.
Documentary “Out in America” (WETA at 8) profiles prominent people in the LGBT community, from Bravo executive Andy Cohen to country singer Chely Wright, as well as everyday citizens across the country.
“Extreme Couponing” (TLC at 9:30) follows Joni in Ohio as she attempts to get a $3,100 shopping trip down to $100 through coupons and then heads to Washington state to see Angelique stay up all night to get ready for an epic shopping experience.
Owen doesn’t know what to do when drama breaks out between his salesmen on “Men of a Certain Age” (TNT at 10), while Terry deals with relationship issues and Joe helps out his former bookie.
“20/20” (ABC at 10) devotes an entire special edition to the oh-so-rich subject of reality television, called “Reality Rule$: When TV Gets Real,” and explores everything from what it takes to make it on reality TV to how some people capi­tal­ize on the shows to create their own franchises. The segment also looks at the creators of reality shows such as the “The Biggest Loser” and “Celebrity Rehab” and goes behind the scenes of what is surely a very scary place — the “Jersey Shore” control room.
Actresses Jada Pinkett Smith and Elle Fanning visit “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC at 11:35), along with musical guest Lenka.
“Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS at 11:35) hosts actor Jon Cryer and a drum solo performance by Roy Haynes.
